Pursuit series of boats began in 1977 by Leon Slikkers, and by 1980 AMF produced the last Slickcraft. S2 Yachts then purchased the Slickcraft brand name and a new plant was built in Ft. Pierce, Florida. By 1986 each line of boats had become so well recognized that separate dealer franchises for each product line, including Tiara, were established and total employment had reached 780 people within the two companies. On into the 1990s many new models of Pursuits were introduced and its reputation as a first class fishing boat grew, winning awards and more recognition due to the unparalleled attention to detail that is signature of the Pursuit line.
With the advent of a "Total Quality Management" program, Powerboat Reports published in 1994 that Tiara Yachts had received a customer satisfaction rating of 95%. The company and Leon continued to receive many awards and in 1997 Leon was inducted into the Michigan Boating Hall of Fame. By the year 2000 Pursuit was presented with Yamaha's Sales and Marketing Achievement Award for the fourth straight year.
With the family well in control the company continues to set new standards for innovation, quality, design and value. Pursuit is now totally dedicated to building boats for the fisherman and his family.
Pursuits manufacturing process pairs the best of today’s technology with traditional, time-tested, construction technique. Elegance of line. Superior fit and finish. Unsurpassed reliability and durability and throughout-always-uncompromised quality.
Pursuit’s two-line production process allows the hull and deck to be built simultaneously and are meticulously matched into a seamless whole. Stringer and cross- member construction varies model to model to allow for best possible strength, balance and weight reduction.
The Ferro Ultra Gel coat allows for the maximum in ultraviolet protection and Pursuit guarantees that the surface will remain blister-free for five years. They use biaxial fiberglass to ensure superior strength. Use of vinylester resin on hulls and decks to achieve maximum water resistance is a standard in the Pursuit line. Some other standards in the Pursuit line include: continuous wiring with no splicing and loom protection throughout, battery cable insulation to 600 volts, exceptional reinforcement of all seating, deck hardware, console and hardtop by direct mounting into aluminum plates embedded in the fiberglass.
Pursuit individually makes all the teak and holly finish trim work including all the cabinetry and tongue and groove finishing. As if that is not enough, all canvas and upholstery are cut and hand-sewn and fitted individually into each craft. Before the craft can be prepared to be shipped to you, you can be assured that it has undergone vigorous testing at Pursuit’s onsite test tank to ensure maximum resilience and durability.
